Oil Filter Cleaning

I went to clean the centrifugal oil filter in my CL77 and can't seem to remove the rotor cap. The set ring has been removed and I have soaked it overnight in WD40 and Kero and still no go. I don't want to cause damage by trying to pry or knock the cap loose. Am I missing something here???

Use a wood dowel or soft metal rod which will fit through the hole with the steel end and aim to the side of the cap hole and tap it as you go in a circle watching the cap come out.
Clean both parts and see if the shaft will fit all the way through. If it won't go through the cap use a sharp knife to open the hole until it will install all the way with no friction.
Be sure to put the steel washer on the shaft before you install it into the filter and put the locater pin at 12:00 before you install the cover. .....................ln
