Newbie Beach Cruiser style handlebars for my 1963 Dream

Post by jerburke » Sun Oct 07, 2018 10:14 pm

Hi All,

Just picked up this 1963 Dream 300.
Runs great. Drives great.

This is my first Dream.

I’d like to convert the handlebars to beach cruiser style.
Any thoughts or concerns?
Anyone else done this?

Thanks,
Jeremy

Hi Jeremy

For us uneducated foreigners, can you describe 'beach cruiser' ?

Changing the bars is relatively simple but you may need to cut a slot for the throttle actuating slide which is internal on Dreams. Alternatively you may be able to find the throttle off another Honda. Cable length could also be problematic.

I was thinking like the old Indian Motorcycle type "beach cruiser" bars (maybe I'm not calling them by the right name).

Here's my bike:

Here's more or less the style of bars I was thinking of. Where they lay a bit more flat and outwards:

Did a bit more research and it seems the vintage Indian Bars (like the one below) might have also been called "Hollywood Bars"

I like this look which I think would be appealing on my Dream.
