I've spent the few hours I had this week lapping in the valves and checking and cleaning a few other bits of engine, my order from Silvers was delayed by a back order, but finally arrived this afternoon. I checked over the few bits and pieces I'd ordered and I'll be damned if they hadn't sent odd pistons! There was one for a C77 and the other was for a CB72. I phoned them straight away and as expected, they sorted it immediately, asked me to send back the dud and refunded the return postage.
I'm not too bothered as I only need the one piston to take to Dumfries so that will be Monday's project.

I have always fround DSS to be genuine and helpful. They cannot know everything and sometimes the mistakes work out well.
A few years ago they had Dream shock absorbers listed. I ordered a pair and got one C72 unit and one CB72 unit (with a C72 number on the package). The CB72 was a real bonus at that time.
Sometimes their mistakes are simply bad labelling by the people they have bought stuff from.

I've had a few dealings with them over the years, Graham, and I agree with everything you say, I only commented on their mistake as I thought it ironic that I already had a set of odd pistons with the engine that I had stripped.
I have a lot of time for Silvers, not only for the breadth of spares they carry, but also the expertise that everyone who answers their phones demonstrates.

It's funny about these bikes. I've had two bikes (CB72 and CB77) which came to me with odd carbuerttors. One even had left and right mixed up so that you couldn't get to the adjustment screws.
Not trying to suggest that DSS are saints but it's a tricky job dealing with parts that have been on a shelf for 50 years in a dealer shop.
Heard a story this week about a lad (back in the day) who stole the CYB 'race kit' 4-speed gearbox from his boss's bike while he was away on holiday and installed it in his own bike......
