Understanding kick start operation?

Post by GregMcN » Thu Sep 07, 2017 3:48 pm

I have just X-ed the gears on my CB77 but on reassembly I am struggling to understand the kick start pawl operation. The kick start shaft seems to rotate unless the pawl is operating so
what is to stop the pawl operating all the time?

Understanding would be appreciated or have I not reassembled correctly?

Thanks Greg

The kick-start shaft should turn only when using the kick-start lever. What stops it from rotating is the spring load which returns the kick-start lever. In the rest position the pawl is depressed by a bolt thru the right side of case to keep it disengaged.

Thanks Stan, I had seen the screw and half wondered what it was for but not put two and two together.
