Cam Chain Tensioner Roller Refurb or replacementWell I finally got back to the Kawasaki Idler conversion idea. I took a few measurements and discovered that there is a bearing that will fit the idler gear and is a match for the 12mm center bush out of the small wheel tensioners.
It was a simple job to press out the old bearing (which I made a bit of a mess of in my haste) and press in a new one with a larger ID. The new one is a 12x16x14mm drawn cup needle roller. It was simple (for me anyway) to do my usual modifications to the center pin (drill and tap for M7), make a clearance hole in the slotted end for my M7 bolt and just put the parts together. It went together far too easily...... I really like this Kawasaki part because of the intelligent use of rubber cushioning with the wear resistance of a steel part. It should be quite quiet in operation. It just makes me smile that this could be achieved with a minimum of effort...... :-) I just ordered some M12 shim washers to take up the side clearance between wheel and tensioner arm and that should be all finished. Cam chain tensioner modificationI'm currently restoring a ca77 and the tensioner is quite worn, is there a part number for the toothed Kawasaki idler sprocket used in the modification?
Geoff
New ones are prohibitively expensive. Just look out for Z650 or Z1 / Z900 cam chain idlers. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1978-KAWASAKI-K ... O2&vxp=mtr G '60 C77 '60 C72 '62 C72 Dream '63 CL72

Thanks for the info, you are quite right, new ones are really expensive. Also, has anyone found a substitute for the chain guard? I've bought one for a 125 Honda that looks like I can adapt it but would prefer something a bit closer to the original. Geoff Geoff
The Dream chain guard comes up on eBay from time to time. Like all tin parts though, they can be expensive. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R4 ... d&_sacat=0 G '60 C77 '60 C72 '62 C72 Dream '63 CL72
