Oil Filter Spacing
Oil Filter SpacingAs i'm piecing the motor back together, i noticed that there was a little movement in the oil filter.
I looked through the parts manual and i have all the parts shown. But it has some back and forth motion on the oil filter shaft. Also it looks like the chain won't line up properly with the other gear (oil pump?). I will post pictures of it, after i get back home to the new chain (somehow i lost the original one :( ) Any thoughts?
After getting the new chain everything looks the way it should.
However i now have another question. I need to take the filter apart to clean it. I got the clip removed, but can't seem to get the two pieces apart. It has been sitting for a few decades so i can see how it may be stuck, but wondering about a good way to get it apart without damaging anything I'm sure you'll get lots of differing opinions on this, but I use a hardwood dowel inserted through the main filter body hole, angled slightly to contact the back of the cover. Tap on the dowel gently with a small hammer, rotating around the body as you go, to avoid cocking and binding the cover. It may take a few laps around, but it should come free. Regards, Chase
