CB72 woes - Crank case
All the selectors are the same.
Need to have good (no real ware) on the tips. ........................lm
It is good to see someone restoring an early bike. You seem to have several early parts in those photos, although the top engine case doesn't have the breather on it. If you have not already checked it out, look at G-Man's CB72 restoration thread. You have quite a project on your hands, but it will be worth the effort.
Re: Gear Selector ForkIs the front fender aluminum?
I'm not sure that small sprocket is for your bike. Can you show a pic of the engine numbers? ...............lm
Re: Gear Selector ForkYep, the front fender is aluminium. Hopefully you should be able to make out the engine number on the top of the crank case here in the photo. CB72E-210022.
Re: Gear Selector ForkThank you.
That fender IS RARE! I was able to see and read them. What I wondered was. With the upper case not having the tower at the right rear I was curious if you had the original case. As I see the numbers they were stamped in by HONDA and are original style. Parts look rather clean and the crank nut is installed wrong side out. At the oil filter the washer should be at the outer end of the shaft not at the engine end. You will need a shift shaft for sure and I recommend you replace the 6 disc clutch with the CUSH DRIVE which HONDA issued in 1966. Can you tip the engine to the right side for me? Thanks again. .................lm
The history of this engine is that a rebuild was attempted by somebody who did not know what they were doing and got in such a mess they never finished rebuilding it (or cleaning it our properly - the sump still had bits of pistons in it and the oil filter housing was packed solid with ???) Luckily it was not run with misaligned parts or wrongly fitted parts. The original crank that was in there had two different can rods - one with a slit and the other two holes in the crown of the little end for oiling.
I got hold of a shift shaft but the arm (24711-268-030) is in a sorry state as you can imagine. Is this the view you want? Where do I shop for the clutch?
