Pistons
PistonsI've been eyeballing this package deal from Classic Honda restoration. They say that the pistons are forged and have less drag then the factory pistons. I just thought i would get some input from the pros before i pull the trigger.
Thank you. http://www.classichondarestoration.com/ ... d_221.html
Re: PistonsWhat they don't say is the Front and Rear Skirts are not as long as the HONDA pistons.
They may wear sooner than the stock HONDA Piston/Skirts. ...........lm
Re: PistonsThanks Loud Mouse, I'm in no hurry I guess I will keep looking.
Re: PistonsJames,
I have machined and installed several sets of Wiseco pistons from Classic and they work great. The shirt is 5.82mm shorter but that hasn't given me any problems. I will always take a Forged over a Cast piston any day. Tim
Tim, Thank you for the input. I did have one reservation about using forged pistons, I have read somewhere that forged pistons are more dense then cast pistons and take longer to warm up, And they have a tendency to knock in a cold engine. This wouldn't bother me though as i would just allow the pistons to reach the right temperature.
The alloy use in this particular forging is 4032 (high silicon) and has a lower growth rate than some forging. Actually, I set the skirt-to-cylinder clearance for both Honda ART cast and the 4032 at .002". I have heard no piston slap cold or hot.
Tim
Tim, Sounds good I might get the set soon. I will need the machine work done by someone who knows their stuff. If nothing else I want the engine to be right as i will probably make a few long trips. So i plan to have the crank cleaned and inspected and the cylinders bored and piston and rings fitted. I think i can do the rest my self. Let me know what you charge for your services.
Thank you.
