valve and guide clarification
Combustion chambers had pitting, so I re-cut to clean up. Still have to cut seats
I have Neway seat cutters/pilots for 30, 45, 60 degree. The valves are already ground, and new guides made. The guides were made from C954 hard bronze [the SAE62 hard bronze was too hard to find - new designation for SAE62 is C905]. The C954 is used for guides in aircraft engines.
I had to drop down .025" to get pitting out. I may have to add shims under valve spring seats, depending on how far the valves drop down with the re-cuts - won't know until I get guides/valves into head and measure stem tips to spring seats, comparing to a datum measurement of stock. I load measured 24 springs to get the 8 best; some of the springs on hand were "tired"; I think this is very important, and something often over looked.
I wondered about taking up the slack after the cutting.
