Houston 1966 305 Dream Log
If the main is installed correctly it has nothing to do with the idle. Do you have the other old parts that were in the carb when ya started?. If ya do I think ya should put them in the carb. .........lm
I wont be able to do it until tomorrow but I will look for the original idle jet. I think it was the same size as the replacement, which was why I went ahead and replaced it. But I have a general question about my overall symptoms and setup. What is the relationship between timing and plug fouling? i.e., is it possible that if my idle speed timing is too advanced after setting with the test light due to weak advance mechanism springs that this could contribute to idle speed fouling due to incomplete combustion? The timing is theoretically perfect until the cam spins and the advance prematurely kicks in, which is at rpms lower than idle speed, causing incorrect timing at idle but correct timing at higher rpm's. Maybe the fuel mixture is fine but its getting fire at the wrong time in the lower rpm's? Could this explain how well it runs on the road and also how it fouls plugs so quickly sitting still. Plausible? Not?
Correct Year Model?I beleive this bike to be a 1966 but the title lists it as a 1967. I am trying to get it changed from an Oklahoma registration to Texas and would like to correct the mistake, if it is one. Can anyone confirm from the pictures posted or the other details posted throughout this thread if this is a 1966 or 67? For instance, this bike does have the 2 vent ports that run through the top end to vent the engine interior to open air. My understanding was that this was discontinued for '67?
Re: Correct Year Model?I also live in TEXAS had had a similar problem with a 1963 Super Hawk. I took Bill Silvers numbers with me but the local DOT wouldn't look at/trust them. They called Austin (I told the locals that Austin wouldn't know) And Austin called (I told them HONDA wouldn't know) and HONDA said to ask what kind of bars and what color the fork sliders were! I answered Flat and Blue and the DOT lagy told me I for sure had a 1963. SEE! I was sure no one would know. For the DREAM I don't know of any real defining features like the SH has. Have you checked the white tab on the wire harness under the tank?. .................lm
Plug foulingBob, did you ever get your problem with fouling plugs solved....There is a gap of 4 months since your last stated problem.
