MYSTERY FRONT FORK SEALSMYSTERY FRONT FORK SEALSDropped the bike in the garage when the motor was out, trying to put my bicycle away, didnt help that the superhawk weighed 13lbs at the time, and didnt have any top weight. oil spit from the forks. didnt think that was right. disassembled front forks at the top parts; didnt have a strap wrench to disassemble the bottom parts.
So the top part of each fork include 2 covers at each side of the chrome rim the vintagehonda parts manual neither mentions or shows no seals, but it does mention "PISTON, FR. FORK X 002 51442-268-040" and "RIM, FR. FORK X 002 51608-268-010." You should note that there are no rubber seals on either of the chrome rims in the pic, however, i plucked corroded seals out of both... Can you folks give me a hand in identifying what I need to order to get my forks right? Thanks in advance! BY
rubber washerswhat you're showing doesn't need seals...more like rubber washers...not on parts fiche...I made mine by cutting down big plumbing washers to fit...can't remember whether they go on bottom of top cover or top of bottom cover though I remember taking them off and re-doing when LM commented that I had them in the wrong place...there are similar smaller washers where covers go into top triple tree.
Seals are inside the seal holders below the covers...vary with frame number...I've found wrapping a strip of inner tube around the cover makes it easier for my strap wrench to get a bite... '62 CB77. "It's a rider."
fork sealsWhen you get them apart there are also o rings inside the chrome seal holders.
Al. Re: rubber washersWould you happen to have more information on the plumbing washer, i.e. where you bought the from, what size, etc...?
resourceI think I got them at Home Depot...took the trim rings with me and selected washers I could cut down to fit...
