Parts manual calls for
Parts manual calls fora 219 X 58L starter motor chain, P/N 28101-253-000. I just tried to replace my old one with this new chain, and was too short; counted links on old, and it was 60L. I counted starter sprocket - 13T and crank sprocket is 36T.
Trying to fit new chain also showed it two teeth[links] shy of coming together to attach master link. The starter motor is not shimmed out from case, as some do with a worn chain. Did Honda make a revision in sprocket teeth count to spin engine faster? Is parts book wrong?
The new one is RK, Takasagi roller chain co., stamped on box 58L, and has master link; the old one has no master link. The old one actually laid on the case, between starter and crank - has about 20k on engine That's an aftermarket chain that is too short. The Honda part is hard to find now, and is expensive when you do. Motoretro shows them in stock, you have to email them for the price.
http://motoretro.com.au/ 219 chain isn't that rare however, and you could probably find one cheap and cut it to the 60 links you need.
Thanks for the info - I will check that out.
