???????????? A new chain can cause excessive wear to your original tensionor wheels.............????????????????????lm

OldScrambler wrote:If you remove the proper link (outer plate) you could replace with a clip-style or rivet-type master-link............if the original chain is OK..........no more than 20-degree side-flex.

The chain is the same part number used on all of this style twins...........CB and CL 350s..........and the CB750. My experience has been that the basic DID chain is inferior to the factory originals. Heavy duty units and DID racing chains are also available. A new chain can cause excessive wear to your original tensionor wheels.............

You got me.............I meant to say "A new heavy-duty chain.............."

The side-plates on those units are straight instead of bean-shaped. I noticed the wear when I had to replace the adjuster-gasket after 2000 miles on a rebuilt motor.

I got the pins cut and the master link was at the bottom. Head is off and soaking the stuck piston some more, at least the rings seal good, they hold fluid anyway.

Did you try removing the oil pump to get at the bottom of the chain? and yes rust/oxidation is a very good sealant.

I read a review sometime somewhere about penetrating oils.
They got best results from a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone.
Maybe do it outside.

Success, The head and jug are off, rings are still stuck in pistons, but everything turns freely and I didn't break anything.
I just realized I need a mag puller for the next step.

I discussed the ATF/ Acetone trick at the Barbers vintage weekend with a few in the swap meet area a couple of weeks ago, I may try it on the pistons to free the rings.
