Seized Engine

Post by bweed2112 » Mon Oct 26, 2015 11:17 am

My grandpa recently gifted me his old 67 CL77 Scrambler and i'm working with another relative to get it running again. When we first started working on it the engine would roll over, the other day while working on the Carbs i went to push the kickstarter back and it would not budge.
Why would it work one day and not the next? we haven't started tearing the engine or crankcase apart yet.
I've been told Marvel Mystery Oil might help, what are some thoughts on using that in the cylinders?

Any help and/or suggestions are much appreciated

I will try that next time i'm over working on it. Problem i forsee is we had to take the chain off to soak it in due to it being stiff.

I would spray some PB Blaster in each spark plug hole, remove the stator cover on the right (3 screws), and try to turn the rotor bolt (14mm) with a wrench or breaker bar. Just remember that if you use too much leverage the bolt could break.

Chain is scrap buy a new one you will need it if you wish to use the bike.

The more details you give the more help you will get from the forum there are some very helpful people here BUT we do need info, you have a great machine there and sounds like it has some family history.

I'll look into a new chain.
I get that more info is needed, but at the moment i don't have any more information to give. I will take the two previous suggestions and give them a try and post back what i find to see if that helps. May be a bit as the bike is not at my home and i can only get to it on the weekends.

My 68 305 engine was locked up when I got it.

Soaked MMO in spark plug holes. Left couple months.

I wrapped old rubber tire tubing piece around stator, put chain wrench around that and carefully rocked back and forth with breaker bar.

Came free with little effort.
