Painting engine
engine cleaning & paintingThis for promking,i just bought a 1965 CA77 Dream305 and starting to clean & polish.how did you polish the fins & what did you use?thxs very much
Another painting question...
Is it recommended that I paint while the cases are separated or after the engine is reassembled? Reason I ask is because from what research I have done, it seems the like best results are those where the paint was baked in an oven to cure which would make most sense with the cases separated. Have also seen where people paint with engine assembled, masking and taping, then running the engine to essentially cure the paint. Typically I would just paint with cases disassembled but also do not want to scratch or chip the paint during reassembly. Recommendations would be helpful, want to get this right the first time around. Thanks in advance!
ca77 dream305I am where you are i'm just going to mask & paint the motor is running ok so no need for tear down.they have some great paint products out there.good luck
After rebuilding one of my 1400 engines (aqua-washed whilst in bits ) I painted it with 2-pack satin acrylic, it stands up to the heat just fine.

GSX1400 Blue GS1000G Brockhouse Corgi CB77 CA77 T140 BSA 250 I DO have to grow old, I DO NOT have to grow up. Looks awesome modelman! Really like how you did the fins, am considering a similar look on my 305.
My question though was not if it would stand up to the heat but the best method for curing the paint. As stated above, I've heard of people putting their painted cases in the oven at around 350 degrees to cure the paint and have also heard of people painting the engine, then starting it and letting the heat of the engine cure the paint. The answer I'm really looking for, I suppose, is which method would be more durable against typical wear and tear?
That's the beauty of 2-pack acrylic, 2-pack =paint & hardener, you can blatt the stuff 1/2" thick if you want & it will still dry/cure/harden all the way through in about 1/2 hour!! As for the fins, that's how the top 8 are supposed to be on the 1400, the head is painted then machined off, I did the same!! GSX1400 Red/silver
