right side cylinder smokingMike
There's a thread on here detailing all of the changes to clutches and plates. It might be worth a look. Later friction plates have a metal backing so are probably a bit more robust. G '60 C77 '60 C72 '62 C72 Dream '63 CL72

right cyl. smokingI pulled the clutch back apart and found 2 clutch plates stuck again and one suspicious looking plate. I roughed up the metal plates a little with sandpaper and replaced the suspicious plate .
I can find neutral when running again and all is well. (except for the new side cover leak it developed after taking it off twice. damn!) The best thing about this is that I didn't have to put new rings in the engine. The Marvel Mystery Oil cleaned the crud off of the rings over the winter. Re: right cyl. smokingMike
Heat cycling the engine combined with the Marvel Mystery Oil probably softened the gummy deposits and let the rings move again. Some of the ones I have taken apart are stuck for good, even after heating and cleaning in the ultrasonic clener. That stuff can get very hard. Good news on the clutch. :-) G
