Should not need any specialty tools to split the crankcases. Just make sure all of the nuts and bolts are removed, especially the two nuts on the top case. Regards, Chase

Remove all parts which are attached to the top and bottom cases.
Remove all nuts and bolts.
There are 2 8mm nuts on the middle/center of the top case.
Remove them and the part they hold then put the nuts back on and flush with the top of the threaded studs.
Lay engine on it's right side.
Brass block/aluminum block or wood block.
Put which ever one of these you use on the 2 nuts and using a HEAVY HAMMER-Knock The Heck out of it. ..................lm

Also need to get new pistons and have the cylinders bored out. What do you guys recommend as far as sizing goes?

Thanks for the replies guys!

Since I posed quite a bit one after the other I guess some of the info got lost...
I currently have the cases split and all is looking good with the exception of a broken transmission bearing which I need to source if anybody knows where to find them...will post pic soon.

I also need to get my cylinders bored out but would like to bring the pistons in with the cylinder head to keep everything accurate. What can you guys recommend? Can I do the modern 350 upgrade or would I be better off with a different ratio?

And still cant get the damn forks off...don't know why. Somebody educate me haha.

With the exception of some difficult case screws and the frozen pistons that was about it. As far as a visual inspection goes, everything looked surprisingly good. Don't think the engine was ever opened up prior to my beat-down haha. Will need to check tolerances/spec's to officially confirm that but as of right now I'm quite happy with everything :)

I think its rather funny how when working on these old, finely tuned machines, most of the time your just beating the shit out of it.

Here's some more photos of the cylinder head, valves, and pistons. The frozen one took quite a bit of work to get out...heat, smash, repeat, over and over. Cylinder walls look surprisingly good but still going to do a bore as a precautionary.

Okay, really need some advice here guys. What do you recommend for my piston sizing?
Can I do the more modern honda 350 pistons, since that was what I was originally considering, or should I go with a different ratio? Need to get them ordered and bring to the machine shop for an accurate bore, the more info the better!

Thanks as always! :)
