I actually tried the wood but need to use a better thickness I suppose since it didn't grip as good as I thought. Will let you know how it goes this weekend! I also plan on starting a new thread once I make a little more progress. I've been taking pictures and documenting everything up to this point. Thanks for the replys as always guys!

Wow! Separating the camshaft was some serious work, it just did not want to cooperate no matter what we did! After about 3.5 hours and a lot of doubt we finally got it separated and here is where I'm currently at, let me know what you guys think so far...

^ click link and go to 'photostream' to scroll through photos of current progress :)

Next up, I need to take the valves out but do not own the compressor tool. Does anybody have a suggestion of how I could do it DIY style? Or where to get the tool if it is cheap enough..

Also I want to replace the two little springs attached on the camshaft sprocket, have not been able to source them if anybody knows where I could pick those up as well. (knowing the name of them might solve that problem though haha)

Got her stripped down to the frame with one exception...cant get the forks out. There is some rust towards the top insertion point but it seems like they are still held in place regardless of rust and hardware removed. I noticed some little 'pin' looking things around where the seals are housed, do those need to be compressed for the removal of the forks?

Made more progress on the engine today! Got the pistons freed and going to attempt to tear down the transmission and get started on the bottom end inspection tomorrow.

On some youtube videos I have seen, they have used specialty tools to split the cases, are these necessary or is there a DIY method someone can share?

Also am considering replacing all the bearings in the transmission but am having a little difficulty sourcing them, can anybody recommend a source for the bearings?

Thanks guys and please, the more info the better for a total beginner such as myself!

Anybody care to chime in? Could use some advice...

Also need to get new pistons and have the cylinders bored out. What do you guys recommend as far as sizing goes?
