Cam, chain tensioners

Post by davomoto » Thu Oct 04, 2007 6:13 pm

Has anyone had any luck replacing the rubber wheel on the cam chain tensioners? I have 3 engines that I'm working on, and all need new wheels. Two look like new with no wear, but rubber is hard. I think I read a post about this a while ago on this site, but I am unable to find it at this point. Any opinions of what would be a suitable material to replace the rubber with? Aluminum? A tensioner wheel from another make ? model? Thanks in advance!

As all the wheels are hard neoprene ya need to be sure the wheel doesn't look like a sprocket. .........................lm

LM, thanks for the reply! Yes, I have several that look like a sprocket! I also have one early, and one late that are smooth as a babys butt, including the ridge in the middle. You would use these no problem? Does the same thinking aplly to the lower roller as well?
