re-chroming a muffler

I am also thinking about buying a set of OEM mufflers. They have some rust on the back side. I don't think you could see it much. Is there a way to stop the rust from getting worse? I called a shop about re-chroming them, they said you would have to seal up the mufflers somehow so any rust, or oil in the muffler would not contaminate there tank. Also he said if all that was taken care of it would cost $200. is this right? There must be away to re-chrome a muffler?

Hunt around for the chrome-work, some are not as concerned by the contamination issue as others. You will need to clean them out as best you can, though, Hot Caustic soda is about the best way, bloody dangerous stuff, though, so be careful.......
