Sure did need that side cover. Fortunately, I found a NOS piece. I didn't need my first born any longer. Another NOS for the other side is on the way.

I don't know if the tank badges are original or not. One certainly seems to be; it's in ok shape. I'm not a purist, so if someone wants 'em, I'm up for swaps. I've already swapped the 1961 tail light that came with the bike.

Those wheels are gone now too. I stripped off the tires, rims and spokes and sent the hubs to Central Wheel Components in the UK for tires, tubes, bands, stainless rims, stainless spokes, hub polishing and powder coating for the originally painted hub part. They took forever to get there and to get through customs. They should be back to me in 6 weeks or so. Hope springs eternal.

So-so results with the other 2 pieces de-rusted today. I'll take the rest of the paint off of the tool shelf tomorrow and put it back into the electrolysis bath with steel electrodes for a few hours tomorrow. The air filter door is okay.

I'll probably start de-rusting the center stand tomorrow, but first I'll take a "before" picture for later comparison.

Seadog, If the right side badge is in good shape it's worth around $50.00.

Wow! I don't think it's in $50 condition though.

Making a little progress today. I finished brushing the parts de-rusted yesterday and gave them a coat of primer. In the electrolysis bath today is the center stand, the collar and the bolt.

I also drained the Evapo-Rust from the gas tank and I can say that I'm well pleased with the results. I couldn't get a very good photo of the inside, but it's pretty shiny. The directions for the product call for a water rinse and, to prevent flash rusting, to dry it, then put some product back into the tank to wet the sides. Excess is to be drained and the wet sides allowed to air dry. I chose to follow that route and will rinse and dry the tank again when it's put into service. I'll keep an eye on it just to see if any rust develops.

Edited Later In the Day: Added "after" center stand photo

Gonna watch this one, looks fun!

I had to weld my rear fender back on to my CA72, let me tell you, welding isn't my strong suit. My grinder was my best friend after that metal surgery :)

Good work by your buddy, though!

Thanks. Wish I could weld. Still, I'm having fun and gaining ground for now. Soon I'm going to try zinc plating. I learned today that the center stand collar and bolt are zinc plated. They could use a freshening up, as could a few other parts. I need to read up on it though and find some zinc and a power source.
