I started to try and remove the bolts so I could go through the clutch plates and check the timing etc, however the bolts that hold the covers on have been hollowed out to where I cant get anything to grip them enough to turn them. I would appreciate any suggestions as to how I may get them out so I can start on it thanks.
An impact driver works about the best if there is anything left of the Phillips shape to work with. But if there isn't.....
Tap them all with a hammer and a punch to shock the threads loose. A needle nose visegrip works well on the ones you can get at. For the others you will probably have to find the right size drill bit and easy out unfortunately..... Hope this helps. FS I have a couple of techniques when there is no 'Phillips' head left.
First get a small sharp punch or chisel and start a slot or dimple right at the edge of the screw. When you have got a good start, alter the position of the punch / chisel to a more tangential position and give a sharp whack. This usually works for me so that the screw can be taken out by hand. Second drill the head off the screw by using a ¼ inch drill. As the drill approaches the threaded part of the screw you can pop the head off with a small chisel. If you are lucky the head will come straight off. After getting the cover off you can use vine grips on the protruding remains of the screw. G '60 C77 '60 C72 '62 C72 Dream '63 CL72

It was so easy I drilled them all off and when the case came off the screws were loose and I could undo them by hand. On mine it was only the head of the screw that had fused to the case the threads were perfect. Its a lot better than bashing with an impact driver.
if its not broke don't fix it.
Aermacchi ss350 Gilera 124 James SC1 Scooter Honda CA77 Recently I have discovered how much better an impact driver works with a 'dead-blow' hammer. This is a soft(ish) hammer filled with ball bearings and does not bounce off like a conventional hammer.
