I think I will use a detergent oil in my stuff, motor oil has evolved quite a bit since 1960. Honda recommends 10-30 motor oil for all-around use for the CB72/77(look in the back of the rider's manual). Non-detergent motor have no cleaning, anti-wear, anti-foaming additives. 10-30 circulates better during cold start-ups and works better in wet clutch setups.

I think you are wise and your facts accurate. There is a mythology on this forum that the CB/CL 72/77 require non-detergent oil. I have been digging into the facts and have been able to find only one (not very reliable) source for this myth and much to debunk it. I'll post something more substantial later. Unfortunately my CB72/77 owner's and shop manuals are silent on this but detergent oil is recommended for the CL72/77 in the setup (i.e. initial assembly from crate) manual. Also here is a quotation from the owner's manual of the SL100 (a single cylinder, high revving scrambler from 1970 for which SAE 10W30 is recommended): More later.
