I've heard the later model speedo cables were wound (twisted) the opposite way from earlier models...parts manual shows two different PN's for cable and drive.

Thanks.
According to that I should look for a very late model drive unit.
Never thought about the cable, but it does make sense. I will check that as well.

That's one of those "eye of the beholder" things I think.
I would be happy with the CW/CW one I have, especially since I have already done the work on it so that it functions.
Although I will ask E-bay sellers if they in fact know which speedo their drive unit is for, I don't how credible their knowledge will be.
Would you think the odds are favourable if I purchase a drive unit from a 1966 bike?
(I did see an old post by LM saying he thought the changeover happened roughly spring of '65.)

I think that the odds are reasonably poor....

Need to work out how to identify one at a distance...

I wouldn't trust CMS or David Silver to get it right. Have you tried Ohio Cycle?

They don't ship to Canada.
I am hoping LM will chime in. He might even have one.

My book says frame number 1001731 for the change to 020 speedo drive.I wonder if the gears out of a Dream or CL77 drive would go in there? They are both clockwise rotation.
