cb77 fork tube diameter?

Post by klp » Sat Dec 06, 2014 10:17 pm

I am looking at building a new set of forks for my bike. The fork legs I have are tapered on either end and as near as I can measure are 22.5 or so mm. Will these fork tubes work with stock cb77 lowers/bushes/etc?

Hahaha, forgot to add the link!

My forks are type one, steel lowers with the spin off chrome cover/ oil seal holder if that helps.

Anyone?

Are you looking for stock replacements or extended as in the eBay listing?

Not sure if those will work, but if you want to talk to the 'forking' experts, here you go:

BTW Frank is dead -- it's Mary you'll more than likely talk to.

Thanks Vince. My forks are junk so the plan was to run these. I was going to buy some stock forks complete then put these tubes in.

I was just wanting to know if stock fork leg diameter is 33mm as this seller advertises. Will these ebay legs work with stock cb77 lowers, bushes, retainers, etc. I don't have very accurate calipers and can't tell exactly what diameter mine are. I have got extended legs on there already. Permanently extended as one is frozen - hahaha!

Thanks!

Actually they are:

Early 1961-63(ish) steel lowers 38mm
Later steel lowers '63-66? 35mm
Alloy lowers 66-end 33mm

All measured at the lower triple clamp....

I'm not wondering, Just measured one of each :-)

Thanks G but does the diameter taper down where it enters the lower? I was measuring basically where the fork seal sits.

I think I have later steel lowers.

Thanks for your precise reply - I am not well versed on the nuances of these machines.

Fork oil seal size would be 33x46x10, correct?
