repairing warped badges

Post by mike1969 » Tue Nov 11, 2014 8:28 am

I remember someone saying the warped badges can be repaired using heat. Did search but can't find anything. Anyone have experience with this? I have a pretty nice original right side badge that's warped and would like input before I try to repair it.

warped badges

I intended to take a heat gun to try to take the warp out of my original right side badge. Decided against that thinking there was a chance of destroying it.
Got to thinking of trying to file it but hit on the idea of using sand paper. Got a 150 grit piece of sandpaper laid it out on a table and slowly ran the badge back and forth. It made the badge flat but I was shocked to see that it also removed the black color of the badge and made it clear.
Got a can of gloss black paint and shot the back of it. It worked! My badge is now flat and the black paint covered up the clear.
If you attempt this my advice is take it slow because it removes material quickly. You might want to try a finer grit sandpaper.
