This is from literally a year ago, but someone else might stumble onto this thread and every bit of info helps.

My issue ended up being a bad ground in the tail light brake switch. After cleaning the contacts and cutting the old wire ends and exposing new copper in the sheath it made better contact and stopped it's flickering.

Checking your grounds was the solution. Now, I'll have to keep in my mind about paint in the headlight ring.

I"m bumping this as I'm having the exact same problem again.

I just recently had this repainted and the engine rebuilt, and I've got everything together where it should go.

All the lights, horn, spark, etc works except after a few seconds it starts flickering and losing electrical power by flickering again.

It really seems like a ground might be not touching somewhere. The last time this happened after my first entire rebuild was the tail light switch and I replaced that with a new one and it worked perfectly.

I don't know where to look now. I chipped away the new paint under the headlight ground (I'm using a car bulb now instead of grounding to the ring), chipped away at the battery ground terminal connection, and those are the only two that I know of that are frame grounds.

What should I look for?

What about the rear light? Ground return is from the body of the rear light through the frame so there must be good contact from the light unit to the frame.

Did you check the fuse holder for corrosion? I've also seen glass fuses come unglued and separate.

I did not realize that the tail light grounded to the frame, too.

Right now it's sitting on top of a rubber bumper so that there wasn't metal to metal contact there. I had to weld some cracked and broken pieces where the tail light bracket met the rear fender.

I will take out that rubber separator tonight and see if that helps!

I will also check out the fuse holder tonight. I replaced it with a blade fuse for ease of access.
