Used Duplicolor GM- Bright red on my Dream. It's a pretty good match to original. The spray nozzle on Duplicolor paint does an amazing job.
You have to supply the color sanding and rubbing compound to bring out a nice shine.

Got it and will do; thanks. Which paint remover did you use?

I used aircraft paint remover I got at parts store. Either Advance auto part or Autozone, don't remember. Brush it on and use a putty knife to scrape off. Works really well but you will still have to finish it off with sandpaper.
My bike had 3 coats of paint.

While you might be able to make it look half way decent, it will never be very gas tolerant / resistant. That is the biggest draw back to rattle can on gas tanks that I've seen. Nothing beats a 2 part for making a good tank finish that will survive the occasional splash. Plus I've never been able to get a rattle can job have as good of gloss finish as a regular automotive 2 part.

and for reference, the only kind of paint I use is acrylic enamel with hardener, it's tough, easy to apply, single stage, and cheap.

Depends on how much money you want to spend, whether you want a rider or a show bike and your painting abilities.
I got a very nice paint job with Duplicolor. The last Dream I painted did have the gas drip on the tank problem, but my present bike doesn't seem to have a problem with gas. Maybe they changed formula?
Something that might be worth looking into would be the 3M clear plastic coating I've seen advertised on tv. It makes a spray on plastic covering that can be removed. Anyone tried this?

90% of mine I powdercoated and the other 10% is cadmium coated or Alumablast by Eastwood automotive type.

Honestly for the cost of spray cans you can get a harbor freight gun, borrow an aircompressor and get some decent paint. Will look better and last longer. Just my 2 cents.

This is my Dream C72 painted 'al fresco' with small compressor and HVLP spray gun. The guns are so cheap that I have different ones for primer, topcoat and clear coat.

So much nicer to use than spray cans.
