best tyres to put on a Honda CB72

Post by hobknob » Fri Sep 26, 2014 2:28 pm

Hi everybody I am a new member on this forum from the U.K.
I have a spare set of wheels for my CB72, and I was thinking of getting them upgraded to alloy flanged rims stainless steel spokes and getting the hubs polished.
I have original wheels on the bike at present.
Can I fit wider rims so as to fit wider tyres?
Is that a good idea, I use my bike a lot and would love to have better grip and handling.

Regards Jim

Jim

Wider tyres are not necessarily a great idea and would probably not improve the handling on a 25 bhp bike.

Dunlop K82 tyres (Like TT100 pattern) look and work well and make for quick steering. Heidenau make a nice looking ribbed style front.

Plenty of modern pattern tyres out there to choose from.

Hi G-man
Thanks for the prompt reply.
I have pirelli tyes on at the moment and they are fine, just thought if I buy new rims for the spare wheels it might be a good idea to go up in width.
No probs I will take your advice and stay standard sizes.
regards

Jim

The mudguards hug the wheel pretty tight so I think that it may be tricky fitting in anything much wider. I'm sure the Pirellis work pretty well on a 50-year old bike.. :-)

How about some pictures of your steed? We like pictures here...

Here is my CB77 at the Severn Valley Railway wearing a pair of Michelin M45 300 X 18 Front and 325 X 18 rear both have plenty of room around the mudguards and on the road well I have ridden all types of bikes and these tyres are just great I don't know about the wet as I now a fine weather rider.

First time use Photobucket so hope they can be seen.

Re Tyres

Post by hobknob » Wed Oct 01, 2014 7:48 am

Hi thanks for the info.
Great bike you have there, and I do understand about the wet weather use.
I have Pirelli tyres on my CB72 at the moment, and I dont have any complaint with them.
Front is Pirelli MT65 2.75x18 REINE48p
Rear is Pirelli MT65 3.00x18 REINE52p

The only reason I asked if bigger tyres improved things is I have a spare set of Hubs and am going to get them built up with S/S Spokes and Alloy Flanged rims.
If I can get a reasonable price, any ideas?

I will get some pics of the bike on here as soon as I have time.

Regards
