Bike Year IDBike Year IDHey guys,
Hoping y'all can help me ID the year of this bike. The paint appears to be original, as does pretty much everything else on the bike. Comparing it to a 67 Dream I just finished, one of the main differences is that the clutch cable comes out of the rear of the case cover and winds through the frame, as opposed to the front of the case like my 67. Any help would would be appreciated. I got it running, but will need some parts to finish the job, and want to make sure I am shopping for parts in the right year/model. Plus, I just want to know! Thanks in advance!
Thanks for the help! About this bike; I was offered 2 Dreams as a trade for some photography work (my profession), and as a vintage bike enthusiast, I accepted. The first one was a 66, and in pretty reasonable condition. I did the usual tune-up bit (carb overhaul, points, etc), and added a new battery, fuel lines, filter, seat cover, and a few minor things here and there. I spent a lot of time cleaning, polishing, tuning, and getting her all dialed in. The bike came with a title and sold on ebay a few months ago. Here is a picture of the finished bike;
I was told the the 2nd bike was a PARTS BIKE ONLY, and that it would not run, and was dead. After I finished the first bike, I took a closer look at number 2. It appeared to be all there (although pretty rough), so I started tinkering with it a bit. First step was to check the compression, and it was fine. I put a new battery and plugs on her and gave her a kick; we have spark! I also clicked it through the gears and it seemed fine. I didn't want to try to start it yet, but I knew I might have a fixable bike here. So far I have done the following, which has resulted in a strong running bike, that is near-ready for a ride, as soon as I get a few more parts.
-New tire tubes -Replaced most of the wiring connections, as well as some roached wires -New tension leads and plugs -New plugs -Cleaned out the tank (nasty) -Rebuilt the carb -New battery -New battery terminals -Tons of cleaning (about 2 bottles of Simple Green, a scrub brush, and a box of rags) -New petcock, fuel lines, and hoses -New clutch cable -Fresh oil Timing, points, dialed in carb, etc. Lots of polishing and cleaning to go, but the plan is to keep it as original as possible. I am currently needing to order new clutch discs, and one of the wires that wraps around the clutch basket. I have never seen clutch discs so stuck together in my life!
