Exhaust questionsExhaust questionsJust bought a 67 or 68 (?) Honda Scrambler. The exhaust looks radically different compared to my dad's 66. I'd like this to stay pretty original so I'm trying to figure out if it has been altered in any way. If you see anything else out of the ordinary I'd appreciate if you could point it out. Thanks.
Welcome. Please see a photo of my late, original paint candy blue scrambler. You'll see what your exhaust is supposed to look like. The guppy can muffler should be welded to the upper exhaust pipe and slips/clamps on the lower pipe. It should also have the long passenger heat shield.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/113195568 ... 126453394/ HT What a nice bike! So the 2nd heat shield should be longer. It has this very heavy wall, chrome pipe in the top exhaust pipe that extends past the bottom pipe. Is that original? I am also wondering about fork cover clamps. My bike does not have any. Should it? Does anyone have the extended heat shield that they would like to sell?
Thank you Mike
Your exhaust system is what came with the bike as new.
However someone cut the guppy off and added to the rear. As you now know the shield isn't correct. Your bike is a 1967 and didn't have clamps on the gators. I can check on the shield. .................lm
Does anyone have any advice on polishing the dichromate zinc brace that goes to the rear wheel? Mine is rusting. Any other advice on polishing/protecting the engine/transmission case? The kickstand, which appears to be natural aluminum?? I am just trying to clean the bike up and keep it as a survivor. Any tips/tricks are needed. I do not want to restore it because it is in nice original condition.
Last question is on the Honda 300 tank badges. Are the supposed to be green with gold or black and silver? I need new badges for a 66 scrambler of my dad's. Anyone recommend a vendor that is higher quality than another one? Thank You
