Leaking oil bottom end

Post by fab60 » Sat Jul 12, 2014 5:16 pm

Hey guys been noticing some oil leakage at the bottom of the engine. Can't really pin point it as it's at random spots. Mostly towards the outer sections near the bottom section where the headers are. I can see a couple oil dripping after a hard ride when I park the bike. Anyone have any ideas???

Thanks guys

Rick

Fab60

You're going to have to help us a bit here. Anywhere there is a seal or gasket joint there is a risk of a leak.

Try to clean the motor, go for a quick ride, then take a look and take some pictures to narrow it down. Try to get an idea if it's right or left. Left is gearshift seal, clutch cover gasket, oil slinger o-rings.

Right is gearbox output shaft, clutch pushrod seal, and crankshaft, starter clutch.........

What I did with my BMW airhead was to get everything clean, then dust everything with talcum powder.
The oil stained the talc and I was able to trace it back to the leak.

It is, unfortunately I can't claim it as my own.

Hey G-man from what I recall the PO replaced the gaskets and they looked rather new....can there be something worse beneath? I hope my cases are messed up to the point of no return.

You really do need to help us with some detail....

Which gaskets? Take some pictures of what you see and let us see. Try the talcum powder trick and see where it's leaking.

It's difficult to guess from 5000 miles.......
