new on forum---Rebuilding a 68 CL77 and has click sound

Post by wavehog33 » Sat May 17, 2014 12:18 pm

I am restoring a 68 Honda CL77 motor for a customer. First 305 CL I have done work on but have restored a 71 CL350. I have the head, cyl and pistons off. When I spin the crank in clockwise direction on flywheel arrow, I hear a clicking sound? Sounds like around the oil pump area, maybe the drive chain to filter??? If I spin the opposite direction I do not hear the sound. Does not sound like something is broken, sounds more mechanical? Like it should be happening? But what is it?? Thanks!!! Glad to be a newest member.

Could be the kick starter pawl. Roll the kickstart shaft forward and hold it against the stop, then turn the crank. The shaft is normally held in that position(which retracts the pawl)by the kick start return spring.
