What a concept - A Girl Bringing Back Her 1966 Super Hawk
Graham, that was so sweet!
You know, the friendships I have made here are probably more dear to me than the fact that I brought back my old motorcycle. The trail was truly one of discovery, and in so many ways. I'm glad to hear you're inspired to get back to it! I look forward to the stories. :) 1965 CB77 305 Super Hawk

Well, we're not quite done yet.
I bought one of these on eBay, what, a year and half ago. http://www.ebay.com/itm/111298155150?ss ... 1423.l2649 It's a tach cable. It did NOT come with a seal. It leaked, so Ed was kind enough to send me a seal. I installed that seal, and it stopped the leaking from around the knurled nut on the tach drive. However, it still leaks, only now it goes past the seal and up into the cable sheath, and oil comes out of the tach end of the cable. I checked the seal carefully, and it seems to me the issue is that the ID of the seal is too large for the drive end of the cable, and it doesn't seal it off. Does anyone have any suggestions? 1965 CB77 305 Super Hawk

This is the exchange I just had with the person who is selling the tach cable I linked to on eBay. It was less than satisfactory. And a little bit rude.

I bought a tach cable from you over a year ago. I just recently finished the restoration on my CB77 and have been running the engine for extended periods of time. The cable, as it arrived from you, had no oil seal at the drive end. I installed an original seal from another CB77 tach cable to stop the oil leak that had developed around the knurled nut on the drive end. Now, oil get past the seal and into the cable sheath, leaking from the tach end of the cable. Do you have the proper seal available for the cable? Thank you! Hi, Tom! I bought a used on cable on eBay this morning. I also did a mod to the cable currently on the bike. I cut a piece of model airplane silicon fuel line tubing about an inch long, and slipped it over the cable swedge on the drive end. About 1/4 inch overlaps the cable. I put the orange seal the cable came with above it. I used the seal Ed sent me on the forked drive connection, and reassembled the whole thing. Now, the tach is working - beautifully! And, it doesn't seem to be leaking, although I only rode it for six miles (it now has 18,200 on the odo). My fingers are crossed!!
Oh - I did get a follow up response from Martin. He was much nicer this time! 1965 CB77 305 Super Hawk
