If the piston that is stuck is near the bottom then you should be able to rotate the crank and the high piston will slide down as the barrel lifts off the crankcase, revealing the bottom part of the liner on both sides. Fill the crankcase mouth with clean rags and jack the barrel up on pieces of hardwood.

You can apply a bit of heat to the exposed liner and that will help to loosen things up a bit. it will also mean that you are out of danger of pounding the big end on that side.

Almost there......

Thanks G-Man! Two more question for you and others. Does the "LT" mark on the stator refer to top dead center on the left cylinder? Still waiting for my shop manual. And while we are at it, I noticed the stator is marked "CB 72"... What up with that?? This CB 77 is original and from the original owner with only 6,000 miles on it. Did Honda use the same stator for both?

Thanks for insight! I am having fun..! :)

LT is Left/Top so the piston will be at top.
It's a rotor.
All rotors for the CB/CL72/77 will show CB72 or CB72 (L).
