Case Assembly Sealer

Post by P.Martinez » Tue Dec 31, 2013 10:33 am

Getting ready to assemble the upper & lower engine cases and would like to have some recommendations from those knowledgeable engine assemblers out there as to what I should use for the sealer between the cases (engine is a 305). Silver's book says "Three Bond", but does not say which Three Bond product, there are several. I have also read that "Hondabond 4" or "Hondabond HT" can be used. My preference would be Permatex 27B Hi-Temp RTV, as I already have an unopened tube. All of these sealants appear to be silicone-based, and I realize that whatever is used is done so sparingly. Thanks for any suggestions.

I'm not saying that the Permatex 27B Hi-Temp RTV wouldn't work but I guess I don't know it well enough to say if its the same or similar.

I've always been a fan of Hylomar Blue, it was a product used by Rolls-Royce, not sure if it is available in the US.

Case Seal

I've used Permatex gasket seal for over 35 years on air cooled rebuilds and never once had a failure....
