Mike, you'll end up at the point where "a lot of money" will pale into insignificance, simply because you'll just fall in love with your 305! ;-)

One lovely 1964 CB77 sits in my garage, a lot of sorting out with the wiring all going ok ordered a new ignition switch from CMS fast delivery to here in the uk worked out at about £88.00 (shhhhh dont tell the wife) pressing on.

Looking at the bike the only thing I do not like are them sing thing tyres 2,75 front and 3.00 rear they look to me like bicycle tyres I have STD rims DID (they were recromed) so can I put say a Mitchlin M45 3.00 on front and Mitchlin 3.25 on the rear. at least they will look a little better to me.

Yes I have read all the postings on tyres here but no help to my question above so PLEASE can sone one help.

I have not rode it yet only heared it on tick over when I purchased it.

One happy pensioner here. Roll on the summer.

The '64 is close to my heart, flat handlebar and all. A blue '64 CB77 was my first Honda, back in '71. I was 16, having just rid myself of the dreaded 'L'oony plates! And a completely unskilled and out-of-control rider. I learned quickly, but not quickly enough (another story...).

One if my great pals had recently bought a brand new BSA Starfire 250, and he took great delight in scaring the shite out of me when I rode pillion. Of course, his Starfire would run the legs off my first steed -- a '57 James Captain, 197cc 2-stroke Villiers contraption -- so I had just balanced the deficit with my 305! A month after my taking ownership, matey went out and part-exchanged his Starfire for a '66 Triumph Tiger 90 (350cc); another sold his lovely little Honda C95 and picked up a '62 Triumph Tiger 100 (500cc) thinking they were about to redress the balance in their favour. How wrong could they be?!!

I lost second gear, soon into my tenure, so I had to drop the motor and open it up (it had lost a tine from a selector fork). I spun off all the nuts on the bottom of the crankcasing but couldn't split the joint, so I took a wood chisel to the centre rear seam in an effort to persuade the casings apart. Then I spotted the two nuts on the top, holding the valley cover bracket in place. Duuuh! After putting it all back together with plenty of goop, it pissed oil all over the rear tyre. Constantly. But that didn't deter me from laying it onto the silencers through the streets of Southampton. Some aged Dunlop ribbed front tyre and a Dunlop Gold Seal K70 to the rear; it never came unstuck, even in the wet (as long as manhole covers were avoided). My turn to put the fear of God into my pillion passengers!

Anyway, my current 305 is also a '64-registered, albeit a bit of a mutt as it's built around a '61 frame. And it's black. But I don't care. I've lavished time and money on it, and I just love it. It owes me about €10k. That's what obsessions do; they take over your life.....

Hi Mike

I've been running M45s in 2.75 front and 3.00 rear for several years on my CB72 - very impressed.
Only downside is that they are a modern tread pattern but if you ride the bike a lot then the grip is what you want.

Phil-UK would you know if I can put a 3.00 X 18 on the front and a 3.25 X 18 on the rear like I say I still have STD rims rechromed DID rims fitted to the bike when I purchased it.

I was thinking of having S/S WM2 fitted on the front and rear, and maybe sell the DID rims.

I have asked this question many times on this forum but know one has given me a answer so PLEASE if any one reading this with a CB77 CB72 and running tyres other than the STD size 2.75 X 18 Front and 3.00 X 18 Rear, please can you post what size you are running on make and the rim size of both wheels many thanks.

e3steve I will post some pics when I get the bike back together.

Mike, I've never tried upping the tyre sizes; the CB's charm revolves(!) around its factory stance. But I am aware that 2.75 x 18 front tyres are becoming thin on the ground.

I'm sure I've read, here on The Forum, that a 3.25 x 18 presents clearance issues to the rear.

Try using this Google search function; it seems to present one with better results than The Forum search engine.
