Poor Mans Carb Covers

Post by cadman » Sun Sep 29, 2013 4:22 pm

Really didn't like the empty space around the carbs but I am too cheap to pay the price for real ones and they are hard to find.

Made a cardboard template to fit and traced it onto a piece of 26 gauge metal, cut it out with snips and then primered and painted to match. Note the sides are identical except for a cutout to remove oil filler on the left side. A couple of small screws and washers hold it in place.

Yeah - I don't think they are as nice as the stock ones but they are better than nothing and a lot cheaper.

Sorry, it does not look like my picture stayed attached to the words, I also had a go at making a carb cover. I did the same by making a cardboard template stuck together with tape. Then using that to mark up a sheet of 3mm aluminium and then sticking it together with low melting point aluminium rod. I then ground off the lumpy bits and used some two pack filler for any imperfections and a coat of primer. Total cost was about £8 so not too bad, the result is not perfect but good enough I think.
