hey folks,

after reading this forum for quite a long time i finally registered.
i'm a 19y.o. student from hamburg, germany and just bought a '64 CB72 (which is really rare in Germany). only 4 listed on the internet at the moment and they start at 2000€ in bad condition.

I'm rather a noob in fourstroke motors. i do know how they work but i already worked on 50cc bikes so far. 2 stroke.

i bought mine for 350€ (500$) in parts. the condition in rather bad, but not unfixable. biggest problems are the missing front brake and the crankshaft. those are really hard to get here and pretty expensive to ship here. luckily my brother is going to america in a few weeks and getting me a crankshaft.

going to upload pictures as soon as possible! it has original paint on it (red/black) and i have already offers for it at 800€.
it will take a lot of time to bring her back to the street, but i am in no rush and willing to take this project.

Hey ,

i was able to disassemble the cylinder head and to knock out the outer bearings (like the manual says).

Any ideas how to get the others out? is there a trick? unfortunately the head is a bit damaged due to the hard knocking. But nothing too bad.

Could you maybe move the thread in the restoration area?

What do you mean by the head being damaged from hard knocking? Your picture looks like the camshaft is bent or broken. Is it? Or is it a wide angle shot that just appears bent? The right side cam is at an angle compared to the left.

Do you have a manual ? the camshaft will separate into two halves and then each half can be removed from each side. The cam sprocket will separate from the right half and comes out the top. I cant remember the exact procedure (its been a long time since I did it) but the manual will outline the procedure. Good luck

yes i do have a manual, but in my opinion it's explained rather bad :/

it isnt bent neither is it broken. I managed to knock the bearings out on the right side and the bearings on the left moved with it. right camshaft is loose, the other one still connected to the left camshaft. how do i remove it wothout damaging anything?


additiomal question: how do i remove the camshaft for the breaker contacts?
