I'm trying to figure out what year my CB77 is.

Post by Trav85 » Sat Jul 13, 2013 11:50 pm

So I just purchased a CB77 from a guy who pulled it out of his mother-in-law's garage after it's been sitting there since the mid seventies. The two vin numbers that I got off of the bike are these: Engine- CB77E-214088; Frame- CB77-24086. I found a photo on-line that shows a series of serial numbers from '61 to '64 and I'm guessing that it is a '62 but I'm not 100% sure if that's right; and I like to be 100% sure. The guy that I bought the bike from didn't have any idea when the bike was acquired. Any help with this would be great.

Yep - 1962.

Please post some pics. That's an early bike.

Yes Sir ,

More than likely you missed the 1 when you read the frame number too. Which is a good thing. Only 2 numbers apart and more than likely an originally paired set.

I'd love to see it too. I like the before pictures way better than the after.

Welcome ,

I thought I was missing a number of the serial set for the frame, but it's not there. Here is a photo of the serial taken from the frame.

Here is a photo of how the bike looked when i picked it up. I have since started to disassemble it. I'm thinking of sending the engine to CT Trail Bikes in Texas to have it rebuilt. From the photo's I've seen the guys does good work. Any suggestions on where else I could get a show quality rebuild on the engine.

Goody,

He didn't miss a number on his frame. Engines in '61 and '62 had that extra "1" digit in the number string.
