65 CB77 idles, dies with gas

Post by Ken184 » Sun Mar 31, 2013 3:23 pm

I've just been through the carbs, new floats, set the float height with a gauge to 22.5, sealed the tank, cleaned the petcock, new filter, etc. motor starts fine, idles fine, but as soon as i give it gas it dies. if i give it a lot of gas, it sputters and revs up, then won't idle down for longer than it should take. What do you think my problem is?

thanks for the quick response. i don't know what you mean by "carb boot"?
I am trying to start and test without tubes and air filters attached yet. is that a problem?

Slides in backward?

Cutouts should be to the rear.

Your the one asking for help.

I simply responded with a common issue that is often overlooked that can cause this type of symptom.

I am supposed to know this? How?

I could guess all day long.

Just trying to help.

Good luck with it.

Goody

its typical that an engine may not run as good with out the air filter on. its letting more air in than is needed which can bog the engine down. Also an engine thats not warmed up can run like that, after 4 or 5 minutes of running and getting her warmed up, she should respond to the throttle better. The question of the carb slides being reversed, is a common mistake. Meaning you accidently put the right slide in backward on the left carb. and vice versa.
