Crack inside cover
Crack inside coverI took off the cover on my CL77 and noticed this slight crack inside---will this affect anything?
Sorry about the fuzzy picture. Thanks, Jeff
crackHello Jeff,
If you follow that casting downward it ends at a transmission bushing that is "located" by a dowell pin between it & the upper case. The crack may have been caused by a wrong length pin when the cases were joined. I believe the oil feed for that bushing is from the lower case which means that there should no problem regarding oil leaks, however there could be a misalignment of the bushing & gear shaft. The only way to determine the cause would be to split the cases & correct the problems------- I feel like Mr. Dumas!! I should have asked: 1. Is this a running motor? 2. did it leak oil? 3. was the shiftIng ok? Your answers would indicate a plan of action.
crackThanks for the response. I am restoring the bike and happened to find this when I opened the case up. I have never had this engine running so can't really tell you an answer for any of those questions. If a person gets a new upper crank cover for that, they usually have different numbers on them, how do you deal with that in regards to title?
ser. #I believe they go by the frame number for the title don't they? Chime in gentlemen

re:Hard to tell from the picture. Is this for sure a crack ? Or possibly a casting flaw. The reason I ask is the first time I opened up one of mine I was sure it was cracked, but what I was seeing was casting flaws. (FWIW I also have discovered cracks.)
