On the cheapDaves,
Please add your location. There is a lot of info on this site. Since you have lots of time, learn to use the search function (above top of middle row). With it you should be able to find a parts manual you can download. You should also be able to find answers to about every question you will have. Ebay has a lot of parts and if you are patient you can normally find deals. Forum members will also have some parts. The search function is not the best but, if you use different combinations of words and click the "posts" icon (lower left) you should have good luck. If the cylinders were sealed up during it storage, instead of pulling the motor/head, you may want to try a mix of 50/50 ATF/Acetone in the spark plug holes. With the drain plug out you should be able to tell how much leaks around the rings. Keep a good bit on those rings. Be very gentle when you are trying to get it to break loose. If the tires will air up you might try putting it in 4th gear and rocking back and forth to see if you can get it to move. Be sure to drape a towel of something over the spark plug holes. If it does break loose, it will shoot that penetrating oil out the spark plug holes and all over everything in your shop. I think you are on the right track trying to get the motor running to see what you have. God bless you for your efforts to save another vintage bike. Hope this helps. Best wishes on your project. my rescue dreamyou wanted my location im in baltimore md yuck!!! any idea of what year bike ? engine # 1028679. i have found no numbers on frame . i have been trying to get the engine to move over the last several years . ive put dura lube in cylinders and liquid wrench ive been trying to turn the rear wheel by hand and trying to move kicker. nada. i cant get rear wheel to move at all so i dont really know where im at in the gears . the shifter will move around but i cant find neutral or the rear wheel is locked also. the next step is remove chain and see what happens . ive been trying to sneak up on it to get it to move but its starting to look like im gonna have to involve some wrenches. i will keep you posted on progress dave . out.
