Rocker arm inner diameter

Post by Husker45 » Fri Nov 16, 2012 11:25 am

My rocker arm inner diameters are all measuring between 0.515 and 0.516 inches. My clymer Honda repair manual states this is out of spec. Does anyone have any perspective on whether I should replace these or can I live with these. Thanks for any advice.

Honda shop manual says .515 is the limit, so you're about there. How accurately do you think you measured it? Unfortunately it's kind of a judgement call at this point. I think the worst thing that may happen is they might make some noise. Probably be drowned out by other noises. That's about all I have except that I haven't read about much concern over rocker I.D. wear on this forum, most are concerned with wear on the pads and cams.

Thanks for the advice. Using a digital micrometer I picked at an auto supply store. I will probably look for some new ones given how close to the limit.

Digital micrometer or digital caliper?

If it's a caliper you might want to measure the new ones with the same instrument before you spend on them. Inside measurements with those is not as easy as outside. How do they feel on the pins?

I don't recall ever replacing rocker arms for excessive wear on the pin. If the pads are OK, I would use them.

Sorry meant to say caliber, not micrometer. The pins measure completely in spec, but your right, much easier to get outside measurement. Fit with the pins has a very slight amount of play. First motorcycle engine tear down so I don't know what reasonable pad wear looks like. Will try and post a picture later today of the pads.
