bare bones wiring

Post by JSharpPhoto » Mon Oct 29, 2012 11:33 pm

I'm going to be ditching the electric start system when I do my tear down this winter. My horn doesn't work currently, I haven't decided wether i'm going to fix it, or ditch it as well.

1. How loud is the horn, is it even worth having? The 6v horns on my vespas sound like a cat coughing.

2. If i'm going to ditch the electric start (and maybe the horn) I was thinking of building a new simplified wiring harness. Has anyone built their own that cleaned things up a bit?

I'm in the same boat. I also am dealing with the ignition switch having been moved to the headlight shell. So far I've looked over the wiring diagram and looks like I can just ignore a lot of the things associated with just the starter wiring. I am planning on using the original key switch. As of this moment, I have two harnesses to work with (neither of them is totally original so further alterations are just fine with me.) Bike is planned as a cafe racer, so rerouting the wiring is also planned.

I did my CB77 cafe bike eliminating much of the stock wiring. I aM using a 2 wire ignition switch, basically hooks red from battery to common black power wire when switched on. Strter and nuetral light wires removed etc.

Tango: mine is a '66 CB 77.

Davo: thanks, I think you've given me a good starting place. I was just going to use the hacked up harness that came with the bike and eliminate what wasnt needed. Maybe I'll get a piece of plywood and have a go at making one from scratch.

thanks,

Mike, I started with a stock harness, and a wiring diagram. I think I eliminated close to half of the wires on the bike! I am using a regulator / rectifier from charlies place, so headlight switch is eliminated as well. Two or three wires running up to headlight, nice!
