New eng. question.......

Post by brcree » Sun Oct 28, 2012 9:55 pm

If anyone has had this situation please help. On trying to start my 69 305 a loud clacking / knocking sound can be heard........sometimes it starts...some times not. When it is running the sound isn't there......?????

Accidentally left it in gear? I did that once. Made a nasty racket until it got going. I thought I had broken something in the bottom end.

Does the noise occur only while cranking?More than likely the starter clutch slipping.

Yes Goody: just during starting...........runs while choke is on and stalls when I take the choke off........starter clutch.....is that a rebuild or a new clutch?

OK Goody: I have the starter clutch looking at me......yes...some of the parts fell out! It looks like everything is there....if the little springs are weak would that cause it to slip as you said?

I see you got your answer in the other post. Good Luck with it. Should correct the issue.
