Correct clutch cable routing& Speedo cable winding up
Correct clutch cable routing& Speedo cable winding upI have 2 questions. First does anyone have some pictures of a bike with the clutch cable that is correctly routed? I do not think mine is correct at the top. Next I am having a problem with the speedometer drive wanting to spin forward (what I think is excessivly) while the bike is moving. It did it with the old cable and I thought it was just because the casing was all broken. The drive seems to move easy and the speedo works fine (needle doesn't jump) but the cable winds as far forward as possible.

I don't have a pic to send, but I'll attempt to explain. The clutch cable; Leaves the handle, arcs down the front side of the handle bar clamps, forming an X at that point with the brake/throttle cable, continues down next to the rear right side of the headlight bucket, turns back and routes under the bushing stop on the tank (over the coil), follows the frame a bit, and exits downwards in front of the fuel tank crossover line just behind the fuel shut off valve, to the side case termination point. This is how mine is set up, and seems a natural flow. The speedo cable hub is spinning somewhat? I don't believe it should move at all. From what I remember, when the little hub is installed, there is a detent like spot that the wheel hub and the small hub has to align to in order to lock in place. Looking at the cable screw cap end, it looks to be about 1/2" up from square in relation to the fork center line, pointing above the bottom edge of the stock fender. I remember this spot being tough to find, and then putting the thing together and hope it stays aligned was a challenge. Hope this helps.
Hey Mike thanks I think I do have the clutch cable correct. I will take the front wheel off tommorow and inspect the speedo drive. One thing that comes to mind is Do you or does anyone else know if there is a difference between the drives from the 6" brakes to the 8"? This bike was originally a 6" I changed hubs and fork lowers to make it an 8". I do not recall which drive I used or if I had the drive from the 8" bike. I will keep you posted.

speedo hubWell ya got me on that one Jon. Maybe a better qualified person will respond to that question. If no response comes in, PM LOUD MOUSE or Davomoto...betcha they'd know. Lets hope the thing just needs to be set proper and away ya go!

Well I got it fixed. It is just a matter of making sure the drive gear is all the way on. I tried several times before I found that one correct spot. If I have to do it again I will know how to get it right the first time. All is well for now as I am just going to enjoy the rest of the summer and ride this thing.. Thanks for your help. Jon
