Chrome Fenders and Side Covers

Post by Cheesehead » Fri Jul 13, 2012 1:03 am

After many years of wanting and looking for a Superhawk, I finally bought a '67 CB 77 from the original owner. Although the top end is removed and disassembled from the engine, the bike is all there. After getting the bike home and examing the bike further, I was surprised to see that under layers of dirt, etc., the side covers and fenders are chrome. According to the orginal owner, this is the way he bought the bike from the dealer in '67. I have never seen a Superhawk with these items chromed. Was this an option from Honda for "67??

Here's an additional dilema...For what ever reason, the original owner decided it was important to chop the front fender. Before I even knew it was chrome, I thought it would be a difficult job to find an original front fender. But how does one find a chrome version??? Simply chrome an original painted version? I cannot imagine a used chrome version even exists, let alone available for sale.

Any clarification of the chrome fenders and side covers, and where to find a front fender is greatly appreciated.

Thanks all!!!

At the end of production HONDA did offer the bike with chrome fenders but not chrome filter covers.
The dealers had found that owners wanted to change certain parts to chrome so they had them and other parts in chrome.
And of course bike accessory shops offered chrome parts and pleated seat covers and other custom items. ....................lm
