CB77 Exhaust BoltCB77 Exhaust BoltHello, returning from my lunch ride I noticed a bit more vibration in my right-side exhaust, lost the exhaust mounting bolt! Still ride-able due to the two rear mounting bolts, at the foot peg mount and beneath the exhaust. But the one right behind the header that connects through the K/S cover into the engine rattled loose and is gone.
Found in this thread that Mr. Loud Mouse says it's 8X75 with a 1.25 pitch. Are we talking about the same bolt here? Does it differ for varying CB77s? Obviously I'll take my left-side with me to the hardware store, but is that something I could possibly even find at the hardware store? Also, for anyone who might read this in SF, are there any stores that are really good for metric bolts? Gonna have to dab some more things on this bike with blue loctite. Thanks! Yikes, turned out what actually happened is the bolt snapped somewhere behind the K/S cover. So I'm going to pull the K/S cover off and hope there's enough material sticking out to grab it with some vice grips and unscrew. Has this happened to anyone else before? My guess is too much force of vibration on that bolt, caused it to snap. Guess I better find a higher quality, hardened steel replacement sooner than later! The replacement I got was just basic steel from Ace.
It did. I was able to almost hand remove it.... it broke off well out of the threaded hole in the case.
Replaced and buttoned her all up. I used to hardened steel one from the other side, and put the new, less strong replacement on the other side, which doesn't seem to have any problems. I believe this all stems from the fact that my one-piece exhaust needs repair where the header meets the baffle. It's still together and still ridable, but it's not as strong, and there is vibration there, which I believe comes down mainly on that bolt. I need to get that repaired but am not sure where/how. I'm going to start another thread entirely about that issue. thanks.
