180 vs 360
180 vs 360I recented purchased a 1962 Honda 305 Dream. Is this bike a 180 or 360 degree engine? What's the pros and cons of each? Also I am told 450 jugs with appropriate pistons fit the 305,true or false?Additionally,is there a stroker crank available?Thank you for all replies.Greener.
The 450 cylinder doesnt fit, you would have to bore the dream cylinder block for the 450 sleeves, possibly the holes in the upper crankcase half too. Whether or not the wrist pin diameter or the deck height of the 450 pistons would be compatible with the Dream engine is anybody's guess. The dream cylinder head has a camshaft with real conservative valve timing numbers and a tiny little single intake fed by a small carbureter. Not a whole lot to be gained power-wise without large applications of money.

360 crank provides even firing interval and power pulses at there expense of vibrating like a single. 180 crank gives lower vibration with uneven firing pulse and requires twin carbs. 450 jug will not fit without alteration of cylinder stud spacing (welding and re-drilling). Then you would need the 450 head which would probably not fit the frame. It has been done with a CB77 but needs a pile of work. You can put bigger liners in and bore out to 350cc. CB750 liners are suitable with mods and you will need CB350 pistons with the crowns modified. A lot of work to improve the performance of a bike with poor handling and bad brakes.... :-) G '60 C77 '60 C72 '62 C72 Dream '63 CL72

180 vs 360Thanks for the replies.So...because my bike is a single carb...it is a 180?Is there a dedicated parts supplier for the 305 dream? If so,who? Also, the '62 dreams I have seen on the web have gas caps to the right side.My gas tank has the cap dead center.Additionally, the kneepads I have seen have a checkerboard design and mine has a horizontal design. Is there a fuel injection system for the dream? Thanks in advance for any help.Greener
Yours is 360 crank.
Some changes were made around 1963 - yours is the earlier type. There is a list of suppliers on one of the pages here if you do a search.
